The official comparison tables
Each row lines up scores the test owners consider comparable. A PTE range covers every score from the lowest figure up to the next band's. These are comparisons, not conversions: the tests are built differently, so treat a score on a boundary as either side of it.

Old TOEFL scores (0–120)
TOEFL scores from before 21 January 2026 are on a 0–120 scale and stay valid for two years. ETS maps them onto the new 1–6 scale like this:

Score conversion questions
What PTE score is equal to IELTS 6.5?
On Pearson's current table, IELTS 6.5 compares to PTE Academic 55–62. IELTS 7.0 compares to 63–70, and IELTS 6.0 to 47–54.
What IELTS band is PTE 65?
PTE 65 falls in the 63–70 range, which Pearson compares to IELTS 7.0.
What TOEFL score is equal to IELTS 7?
On ETS's table for the new scale, IELTS 7.0 compares to a TOEFL iBT overall of 5.0. On the old 0–120 scale that is 95–106.
Can I use this to meet a university or visa requirement?
No — use it to compare, then check the requirement itself. Universities and visa authorities set their own figure for each test they accept, often with a minimum for every skill as well as the overall, and it does not always match a concordance table.
Why did my PTE-to-IELTS comparison change?
Pearson updated its concordance in 2025 to reflect the updated PTE Academic test. Older charts online still show the previous figures, so the same PTE score can appear against different IELTS bands depending on where you look.
I have a TOEFL score out of 120. Is it still valid?
A TOEFL score is valid for two years from the test date. Scores from before 21 January 2026 are on the 0–120 scale; choose "TOEFL iBT (old 0–120)" in the converter and it will place yours on the new 1–6 scale first.
